PHI Air Medical is America's premier full-service air ambulance provider. We are currently looking for medical billing candidates ready to join our team of skilled and dedicated individuals supporting the mission of safety, quality care and customer service. This opportunity is for our central Phoenix medical billing location and is for regular business hours. We have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Collector with 3-5 years previous experience in a medical billing and collections environment. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office – Word and Excel and must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Performing in depth review of accounts to determine payer coverage requirements
  • Contacting patients and insurances to obtain payments
  • Submit appeals and reconsiderations     
  • Negotiate settlements and payment plans
  • Escalate problem accounts to obtain payments
  • Review all assigned accounts to determine priorities

JOB SUMMARY
• Ability to handle patient calls in support of collections activities to include financial review for charity program, set up of payment plans, negotiates discounts and handles patient complaints.
• Display skill for contacting insurances in an assertive, consistent and knowledgeable manner in order to obtain timely payments. This includes escalation of issue to supervisors and/or grievance department.
• Skilled to draft correspondence, appeals and or to identify accounts which are to be referred for denial management / Utilization Review appeals review where appropriate.
• Ability to take direction, coordinate projects and prioritizes assignment on individual basis, as well as on a departmental level.
• Ability to analyze adverse billing, collections, and payer trends.
• May provide leadership and act as a resource for management to assist, train and provide support to the RMS Billing Staff.
• May assist with special projects related to payer issues or overall collections shortfalls.

QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have 5 years of previous experience in medical billing/collections in a medical office, clinical site, or billing/collections office.
• Knowledge of general office procedures and using office equipment.
• Have PC skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel.
• Must have prior experience with email and using the web.
